Furget-Me-Not ... Cambodia

What are we doing?

  • Fighting the illegal fur trade in south east Asia
  • Saving the rarest otters in the world
  • Helping local people make a living
  • To date we have raised just over £24000

How have we spent the money?

  • Worked with local people and the Cambodian Forestry Department to train local people as wildlife rangers
  • Funded and advised on construction of new enclosure for Dara, the only hairy-nosed otter in captivity in the world, at Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre
  • Part-funded an otter survey workshop attended by otter workers from many Asian countries as well as local people
  • Funded food and husbandry for all the otters at Phnom Tamao
  • Funded field research to establish status of otter populations in Cambodia
  • Produced educational material for Cambodian schools
  • Involved local people in monitoring and education work

What do we need?

  • £100 to buy the special vaccines we need to keep all the otters at Phnom Tamao healthy and protected from disease
  • £2400 per year will pay for the four community rangers to protect otters in the wild
  • £3000 per year to feed the otters at Phnom Tamao
  • Funds for education, training wildlife enforcement officials, developing alternative livelihoods for local people ...
  • Plus funds for the fight against the illegal fur trade at government and international level
